The opinions of the IOM are highly regarded nationally and serve a central role in crafting legislation across the country (GCU, 2011, p. 1) .The Impact of the IOM Report on Nursing Education In 2010, the IOM released an extensive report on the future of nursing. This report was conducted in conjunction with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a non-profit organization, and took 2 years to complete (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2010).The goal was to create action oriented recommendations to propel the nursing profession into the next decade (IOM, 2010) .
